Washington, D.C./Seattle, WA (October 23, 2008) – ACC presented the 2008 ACC/CPBO Pro Bono award to Bruce Sewell and the Legal Department of Intel Corporation during its 2008 Annual Meeting in Seattle.

The award, which is given to a corporate counsel group for their outstanding achievements and dedication to pro bono legal services and projects, was presented on October 21 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, and recognized Intel’s commitment to pro bono going to its highest levels.

The interests of corporations are furthered when access to the legal system is readily available to resolve disputes, and I commend Bruce Sewell and the Legal & Corporate Affairs Group at Intel Corporation for their commitment to pro bono services. This represents the highest ideals of the profession,” said ACC President Frederick J. Krebs.

To ensure a greater scope of work programs, Intel formalized its pro bono efforts and formed a Pro Bono Committee from the four major Intel Legal offices nationwide: Chandler, AZ; Folsom, CA; Santa Clara, CA; and Oregon, and in 2006, became one of the first corporations to create a pro bono partnership between legal departments and law firms based on a proposal request. The program rapidly grew, and now all of Intel’s major U.S. legal offices participate heavily.

"Community service is part of the essence of who we are as a corporation, and it's important for Intel to apply its resources to provide assistance to the families and small businesses our volunteers serve, but it is also rewarding for our employees to be able to contribute on a personal level,” noted Sewell, Senior Vice President & General Counsel of Intel. “On behalf of Intel and our many pro-bono volunteers, my profound thanks to ACC and the Pro Bono Institute for this award."

Intel’s pro bono projects include working with Microentrepreneurs and small businesses, helping children with disabilities in need of special education services, helping families in legal guardianship disputes, and providing assistance in domestic violence matters.

Past ACC/CPBO Pro Bono Award winners include William A. Von Hoene, Jr. and the Exelon Corporation Legal Department (2007); Kenneth V. Handal and the Worldwide Law Department of CA, Inc. (2006); Anastasia D. Kelly, MCI (2005); Bradford L. Smith and the Law Department of Microsoft Corporation (2004); General Motors Corporation (2003); Philip Morris Worldwide Law Department (2002); and Dennis J. Stryker, General Counsel, Rick Engineering (2001). "
